Program Description

The Saturday Catechetical Courses are running through two semesters for two consecutive years. The duration of each semester is strictly connected with the duration of the academic semesters, i.e. the first semester is from the beginning of January till the end of April. The second semester is from the beginning of September till mid-December.

Five lectures are delivered to both groups of students (first and second year) each Saturday from 8:30 to 12:45.
The medium of teaching is the Swahili language. All teachers are members of the Teaching Staff of the Institute. A majority of them are Tanzanians (native speakers) but also some missionaries who speak Swahili fluently.
Each semester contains 16 Saturdays with five (five) periods of teaching Catechetical subjects in two parallel courses (for first and second year) which adds up to twelve (12) periods.
The Institute is offering to the participants two classrooms with maximum capacity of 80-90 places in each of them, as well one room in the Office Building for administration of the Saturday Course. All participants have access to the Reading Room of the Library and can borrow necessary books (in Swahili or English).

The Teaching of the Catholic Faith

Training: The idea is both to help Catholics to increase their knowledge of our faith and to encourage our teachers to develop the idea of assisting ordinary Catholics and give them an opportunity to teach people in Swahili.
The training is prepared for the Catholics who completed at least primary school and understand Swahili. Of course, a higher education helps better understanding of the materia.
A student gets a Certificate after he has completed the first year, but after completing the second year a Diploma.

Our Goals

To increase knowledge of the Christian faith among the people, especially the knowledge of the Bible as well as dogmatic, liturgical and moral teaching of the Church.
To help Catechists to announce the Christian Faith in the various schools in the Diocese of Morogoro with the proper teachings of the Church.
To prepare intellectually future (lay) leaders in small communities.
To give an intellectual conviction concerning the Catholic faith. It is important because of:
- The strong Islam community in Morogoro and region;
- There are many other Christian denominations.
